It’s a SNOW DAY! Gorgeous. Of course, I only feel that way because I don’t have to go anywhere. Plus, I had the good fortune of meeting some adorable high school kids who are raising money for the school science … Continue reading
If you routinely isolate your child when he misbehaves, what’s the bigger message? Yes, you may get “better” behavior, if what you mean by “better” is “more compliant.” You may have a child who does what you want when you say you want it. But aren’t you also teaching him that when he misbehaves, you will withhold your love? […]
Lately I have found myself annoyed as all get out by some of these ridiculous trends. Come on, you know you are sick and tired of these, too. What would you add to my list? Fancy clothes for pets. I … Continue reading
Please forgive me. If you are in a curmudgeonly mood, please come back again tomorrow. I’ll try to be more snarky then.
I have a partner. This is big. Really, it is. What I’m saying is, I have someone to share my life with. Someone to face life’s ups and downs with. Someone to celebrate with. Someone to talk things over with. Someone to laugh, cry, and argue with. Someone to love, and someone who loves me.

So why, why do I still sometimes find myself longing for that new baby smell? […] Continue reading
I want to write a positive post. I want to discuss how to focus on the important things, the things that truly matter to us. I want to quote James Taylor: “the secret of life is enjoying the passage of … Continue reading

On the flip side, a woman is caught on camera treating a cat cruelly and she becomes the object of death threats.
Are most people kind to strangers?
Once, when I was traveling overseas, a very kind stranger came to me rescue. I was using a bright red day-planner to organize my entire life. All my travel documents, plane tickets, passport, and loads of cash were in that day-planner… Continue reading
This summer’s unusually hot weather has me constantly complaining about: the heat and humidity, my lack of central air conditioning, the noise and inefficiency of the window air conditioning units, and let’s not forget my frizzy hair. [And, uh, no. I feel no need to post a photo of said frizzy hair!]
All this complaining brings up the question: is Air Conditioning a necessity or is it a luxury?
My mother, who grew up in the city, describes sitting out on the sidewalk under a streetlamp playing cards until 10:00 in the evening, because it was just too hot to be inside. Air conditioning only started to become common in office buildings, stores, and public buildings in the 1960s. […] Continue reading
