Today was a rare day. A weekday with the kids, no work, no school, no camp, no plans! So we packed some lunch and went to the lake.
This morning I was debating whether or not to go. I was thinking, maybe I should stay home, get some of those nagging tasks done. I always have so much to do, plus the house is in desperate need of straightening, and on top of it all I have to get Pumpkin ready to leave for camp. And the phone! It didn’t stop ringing this morning. Starting around 9:00am, I think I got 12 calls before 10:30. I just don’t have time to go to the lake, right?
Nahhhh!
So, off we went. (Well, Pumpkin stayed home to hang out with some friends. Instead, two of Monkey’s friends came with us.) I sat in the shade under a tree, enjoyed the gentle breeze, and finished “The Happiness Project.” The kids built a sand castle, swam to and from the docks, and went down the slide about a million times. We all played ‘tag’ in the water, and I pulled them around on their noodles. The sun was shining, the weather was perfect. It was a great day.
I’m feeling a lot more calm. I don’t know if it was the beauty of nature, or the book, or playing with the kids, or just getting away from the ringing phone :-). Whatever it was, I’m just glad to be feeling less stressed.
Maybe I’ll tackle the mess in the house tomorrow.
