What’s your biggest kitchen disaster?
Cake disaster at King Arthur Test Kitchen We’ve been talking about kitchen mishaps, mostly of the messy variety, around here lately. At Casa 1Sentence, we started telling a few more cooking stories, of different types of kitchen mishaps. Um, … Continue reading

Kitchen Disasters
Yesterday’s photo from The Frugal Girl brought back such a fun memory. It was about 2 years ago. My daughter, known around here as Monkey, was helping me in the kitchen. She added a bunch of flour to the mixer, … Continue reading

Snow Day!
It’s a SNOW DAY! Gorgeous. Of course, I only feel that way because I don’t have to go anywhere. Plus, I had the good fortune of meeting some adorable high school kids who are raising money for the school science … Continue reading
What’s for dinner — tonight!?
“What are you making for Thanksgiving dinner?” seems to be the question of the week. I don’t know why. I don’t recall hearing that question so often in the past. I wonder: are folks expecting that I’ll be making something … Continue reading

5 Things That Make Me Happy (and 2 That Do Not)
Katy, who writes one of my favorite blogs, the Non-Consumer Advocate, posted recently about 5 things that make her happy. But that’s not enough for her, no way. She felt the need to temper it with 2 things that tick … Continue reading
What’s your favorite?
Friends say to me: I want to start reading your blog. Where should I start? And believe me, I’m flattered. I mean, there’s NO PRESSURE to read it, comment, talk about it, tweet it, or whatever. [Not that I would … Continue reading
Sorry, I got really sappy today
Please forgive me. If you are in a curmudgeonly mood, please come back again tomorrow. I’ll try to be more snarky then.
I have a partner. This is big. Really, it is. What I’m saying is, I have someone to share my life with. Someone to face life’s ups and downs with. Someone to celebrate with. Someone to talk things over with. Someone to laugh, cry, and argue with. Someone to love, and someone who loves me.
Someone to help fold the laundry. [...] Continue reading

Moodiness
Ooooof! I have been in a crummy mood lately. A really crummy mood. To all my friends and family who have born the brunt of my moodiness, I sincerely apologize. Good thing I’m usually so lovable.
I know that in the big picture of life, I have no reason to complain. So what should I do about this funk that I cannot seem to shake? Here’s my plan [...] Continue reading

Can I, or should I, unclutter the sentimental items?
As I continue on my quest to unclutter my house and my life, I’m finding it easier and easier to give things away, even expensive items, to someone who will use and enjoy them more than I do. But I’m having much more difficulty with the sentimental items.
But I simply do not have room for everything. And I do not want my home to be in any way museum-like. (Um, considering the mess, there’s no need to worry!) Clear and open space in my home makes me feel calmer and more relaxed. I’d like to have more relaxed feelings and less Stuff.
So what do I do with these lovely, sentimental items? Continue reading

Identify the problem: Where are my keys?
Identify the problem.
It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? I mean, if you are unhappy with something or feeling frustrated, you already know what the problem is, right?
Not so much. At least, not for me.
As I was getting ready to walk out the door recently, I found myself in the all-too-common situation of rushing around looking for my keys and sunglasses. I hate that! More stress, more tension, making myself late, just because my stupid keys are missing. [...] Continue reading
